Philip Luukkonen
Student Ministries Leader
Born in Mesa, Arizona, Phil came to MBC in 2003 to join our Middletown Christian School Faculty where he serves as one of our credentialed teachers. Having spent part of his life in Africa with his missionary parents, he attended Simpson College near Redding where he graduated with plans to pursue a teaching career. It didn't take long for Phil and Kindergarten teaching assistant, Heather McGregor, to discover that they really liked each other's company, and in June of 2006 they were wed. So far God has blessed them with little Carter (1) and his little sister, Lily, was born in December of 2007. As one of our resident theologians, Phil speaks of having come to a knowledge of the saving grace of God from a very young age when his father was an assistant pastor at their church. In his years in the mission field with his parents, Phil saw his faith and trust in Christ flourish as he developed his love of ministering to God's church. He wasted no time getting into ministry when he came to MCS and assumed the role of Junior High Ministry Leader under the direction of Pastor Doug. In 2007, Phil took the helm and now leads all of our student ministries, teaching each week on Sundays and Wednesdays, mentoring our young men, and involving himself and his young bride in lives of his students' families. Phil & Heather are tireless in their efforts to teach and model godliness to our youth. When Phil is not teaching our youth, he is probably shooting hoops or wild game, playing soccer, wrestling, surfing, or cramming them into his apartment for an XBox tournament. With his "spare" time, Phil likes to make a little side money working tile. The Luukkonens have truly shown us all what it means serve the church with their whole lives. .

Ron Trenery
Elder
As one of our few native NorCalifornians, Ron was born in Berkeley in the 60's but grew up mainly in Pacifica (and incidentally drinks Peet's coffee from Berkeley to this day). Having grown up in a Christian home, Ron came to terms with the reality of his need to make faith in Christ his own as young man. He had, as he put it, “the great privilege of having believing parents, grandparents, and great grandparents. It was as a young adult that I began to actively cultivate my relationship with God in earnest, without the spiritual umbilical cord that my parents provided. I have sought to sever the unbiblical cord ever since!”

Ron met Cyndi, his bride of nearly twenty years, in May of 1987 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary celebration of the opening of the Golden Gate bridge. They were wed in October of 1988. Soon after, Ron & Cyndi found themselves seeking more affordable housing, moving north to rural south Lake County in December of 1989. Within a month’s time, they began attending Middletown Bible Church as well as starting their own construction business.

God then blessed the Trenerys with two children, Nathan in April 1992, Ashlee in March 1995. Both are students at Middletown Christian School.

It was not long after coming to MBC that Ron began to serve as a deacon, then transitioned to Elder at in about 1994.The MBC leadership relies heavily on Ron for his giftedness in preaching and teaching the flock. He is faithful in making himself available in counseling his MBC family as well as discipleship and mentoring. Ron & Cyndi love having people in their home as life permits. His service to the church and our school includes utilizing his construction skills and expertise.

When asked what Ron likes to do with his “free” time, he offered the following insight concerning one of his greatest delights:

“The hobby that I delight in most, which has developed over the years in ways I would never have imagined, is traveling with my family. We find that when we are forced to share the same plane, train, automobile, ship, motel/hotel, cabin for more than an hour at a time, we get the best picture of who we really are as a family. It's not always the prettiest sight at first, because now we're not independently working on different things in life, we have to interact for prolonged periods of time. This has been one of the most remarkable ways of drawing close as a family, and tasting of the goodness of God that I can imagine. My personal interest in travel is taken up with the wonder of how God has created things in such way as to reveal his glory and handiwork, in how the sun rises and sets, how the tides and ocean currents change and work, and the wisdom, skills and ingenuity that God has given man in inhabiting His creation (ships, bridges, buildings, cathedrals, etc.). There is always a sense of ‘What will God show me today that reveals more of Him & how He has and is working in this particular slice of the world’.

“Virtually every place that we have gone has a spiritual history, and as you go through shops, churches, museums, and homes, clues appear that reveal how the Holy Spirit moved through a place at various times (or currently) much as the wind, which ‘blows where it will’. Whether it's Mexico, New England, U.K., or Mediterranean or perhaps in cities and towns closer to home, there is a spiritual history, or a current battle. This is what really ‘stokes my fire’. I am convinced that the revealing of Christ and the hope of heaven that Gods people look forward to, will be like an amazing journey, wherein there is a perpetual sense of, ‘what will God show us today?’. He will be revealing to us the wisdom and majesty of His person and the wonder of His ways, and this will serve to increase our apprehension of His Glory, and all the while, God will be increasing our delight in Him.”

Phil Skiles

Deacon
Among the multigenerational families of MBC is the family of Phil & Rhonda Skiles. Having raised their two sons, Josh & Cleb, since their teen years right here at MBC, both of them have since taken brides and are raising the next genertion of Skiles right here as well. A long time Lake County based contractor, Phil has served as deacon since shortly after arriving becoming members in 1995. Phil describes his gratefulness to God for his being raised with a godly heritage, the son and grandson of ministers of the Gospel.
"Being raised in a Christian home I can never remember a time when I didn't know of God's love for me. I know the blessings of a godly upbringing, and for that heritage I am eternally grateful...As a result of [my father's] training, at the age of ten years old, I recognized myself as a sinner and, desiring to please God, I wanted to follow through with baptism...It is still amazing to me...how God can accept the simple faith of a child and declare him righteous."
We're glad too, and are grateful to God for the many ways Phil & Rhonda serve our MBC family. Phil is best known for his ministry of music as the mandolin player on our worship team. He also brings his valuable expertise in construction to the many projects on our ever-expanding campus. Rhonda served as our Kindergarten teacher at MCS for many years, and the Skiles boys have stepped right into ministry here as well.

Another couple of our NorCal natives, Bob and Marcine Paolini came to Middletown Bible Church when they relocated to Hidden Valley Lake in 2000 from Santa Rosa. As a retail meat cutter for 37 years in Sonoma County Bob was semi-retired when they relocated desiring to get into a rural setting where they could enjoy the country life and let Marcine return to her horse riding that she had been missing for years. With their children out of the home, the Paolinis became proud grandparents for the first time in early 2009. Bob is the man we count on each week to make sure our weekly messages are edited for podcast and loaded onto our website., is our resident computer builder, and serves as our ‘utility man’ deacon at MBC. The Paolini’s love for Lake County hasn’t kept them for looking toward doing more traveling around the USA.

When he's not doing that he and Marlene are making sure that you know you are welcome during your visit to our beautiful campus. Speaking of our campus, Jim serves as deacon making sure our vehicles are ready to role and our campus is in top shape.

Jim first came to realize his need for the Savior as a pre-teen, but it took until his early twenties to realize the fulness of the grace and mercy that is found in Jesus Christ for the salvation from his sin. He has been tested and blessed immeasurably throughout his entire life, being humbled and casting his cares at the foot of his redeemer. Jim's faith in God and trust in Christ has grown as he and Marlene have raised their 2 daughters and are now pouring their lives into their 4 grandchildren. As Jim put it, "What a Savior!"
